ITAR Compliant – International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) control the export and import of defense-related articles and services on the United States Munitions List (USML). These regulations implement the provisions of the Arms Export Control Act (AECA), and are described in Title 22 (Foreign Relations), Chapter I (Department of State), Subchapter M of the Code of Federal Regulations.

The Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) interprets and enforces ITAR. Its goal is to safeguard U.S. national security and further U.S. foreign policy objectives. The related Export Administration Regulations (Code of Federal Regulations Title 15 chapter VII, subchapter C) are enforced and interpreted by the Bureau of Industry and Security in the Commerce Department.

The Department of Defense is also involved in the review and approval process. Physical enforcement of the ITAR; and all import and export laws of the United States is performed by Homeland Security Investigations Special Agents (formerly U.S. Customs) under Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an agency of the Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, Customs and Border Protection Officers, also under the Department of Homeland Security, inspect imports and exports at U.S. Border Crossings and International Airports and enforce import and export regulations.

For practical purposes, ITAR regulations dictate that information and material pertaining to defense and military related technologies (items listed on the U.S. Munitions List) may only be shared with U.S. Persons unless authorization from the Department of State is received or a special exemption is used. U.S. Persons (including organizations) can face heavy fines if they have, without authorization or the use of an exemption, provided foreign persons with access to ITAR-protected defense articles, services or technical data

Southeastern Tool and Die operates two (2) CMM’s (Coordinate Measuring Machines) with an accuracy of 0.0001”. We utilize a full CNC-controlled CMM and a manually operated CMM.

The Hexagon Metrology 7.10.7 SF is a rugged and robust measuring machine and measures 710mm in X, 101mm in Y, and 680mm in Z. (This 27.9" in X, 39.7" in Y, and 26.7" in Z.)

We also operate a mobile FARO Arm where we can measure at the machine or at a customer’s facility or job site. Our FARO Arm operates Cam 10 technology and can output .iges files for reverse engineering of parts. Unlike the CMM, the FARO Arm can be moved easily and still provide a full 3D measurement of parts with a 0.001" accuracy.

The Faro Arm is a portable coordinate measuring (CMM) that allows manufacturers easy verification of product quality by performing 3D inspections, tool calibrations, CAD comparisons, dimensional analysis, reverse engineering, and more.

FFL Licensed

Federal Firearms License (FFL) is a license in the United States that enables an individual or a company to engage in a business pertaining to the manufacture or importation of firearms and ammunition, or the interstate and intrastate sale of firearms

ATF Registered

Registered with the Alcohol, Tobacco; and Firearms department for the repair or production of small and large arms for civilian and Military use. This is a special license needed to produce suppressors and silencers for firearms.

DOT compliant

We are capable of repairs and production of trailers and equipment capable of use on the US highway system. We can repair, modify, or create trailers for any use on the national highway system.

ISO Registered

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations. This means we “Say what we do”, “Do what we say”’ and “Prove it” by external audits of our Quality Management System on a regular basis.

ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, is an independent, non-governmental organization, the members of which are the standards organizations of the 163 member countries. It is the world's largest developer of voluntary international standards and facilitates world trade by providing common standards between nations. Nearly twenty thousand standards have been set covering everything from manufactured products and technology to food safety, agriculture and healthcare.

Southeastern Tool and Die, Inc.'s Engineering Department utilizes several CAD programs to meet the needs of our customers, to include:

  • Solidworks
  • Key Creator
  • Pro-E

Because there is much more to a part than what is on the print, collaborating with our engineering, production, and quality departments is necessary to maximize the customer’s resources (such as time, money, and materials). These resources can sometimes be lost during the prototyping process and initial production run if there is not a good understanding of the end product desired. Our teams constantly strive to learn as much as we can about the customer's needs prior to production. We apply the “measure twice, cut once” method prior to executing all of our projects in an effort to minimize the loss of resources and maximize the quality.

Our engineering department is also responsible for machine programming. Topps and Sigma Nest is used to program our lasers to cut the sheet metal. We perform both static and dynamic nesting at the time of programming to reduce the amount of scrap material. This means that we allow the nesting software to choose how the laser will cut the material. We do however, review the program to determine if there is a more realistic layout and make adjustments if needed.

We also have the ability to "reverse engineer" a customer’s parts if a print or production program is not available, by working closely with our quality team to design a replica. We do this by measuring the parts with our CMM or Faro Arm to create a 3D file that our Engineering/Programming Departments will use to create production prints. Once these are created, they will then be used to produce parts. Upon completion of the prototype, our quality team will measure them to ensure they are made to print.

Southeastern Tool and Die designed and built a fully functional, portable, extending military bridge in 30 days.

Southeastern Tool and Die has the capability of fixing and modifying damaged or old trailers for the transportation industry to meet the DOT 396 annual inspection requirement. With newer transportation laws about the safety and preservation of products, Southeastern Tool can modify or strengthen trailers for road service. We are currently working on gaining DOT-approval for straighten warped frames, strengthen the load capacity, and modify the framework of trailers to meet and exceed DOT requirements. From cracks in the welds, faulty air or hydraulic lines, road wear and tear on the outside to rust and enviromental damage to the underside, Southeastern Tool and Die can make the trailer or truck bed like new and road ready for the annual inspection.

SMERT Trailer

Southeastern Tool and Die created a SMERT trailer (Self-contained, Multipurpose, Elevating, Rollerized Trailer) for transportation and military customers. The SMERT trailer can be raised and lowered between 38 ½” and down to 72 ½”. The bed is capable of both standard width and extra wide width configurations. Each side can be pulled and locked between 88” and 108” wide loads. The SMERT trailer can have special pallets that can lock in place to prevent the load from sliding. For our military customers the SMERT trailer is GSA listed and available with or with a cold weather package for artic use.
